“Playground” at Jakarta 32°C 2006, Galeri Nasional Indonesia, 5-19 August 2006

This is my debut as an installation artist in collaboration with my very own friend, Nana. Actually, Playground is a social reality that happened in children lifestyle nowadays, especially in Jakarta with A-B social class. The culture changed from a conventional playground which is in a garden or park to a sophisticated shopping mall with all its entertainment and enjoyment. In our recent research, there are two children’s characteristics at the moment: First, stay at home type. This kind of type is prefer to stay at home and play their toys without interaction with other people, like playing Playstation, computer, etc. The second one is mall-ers type. This kind of type is prefer to hang-out at mall with their sisters, brothers, parents, or friends. From this point of view we would like to represent the second type of the children’s characteristic in to a something what we called “Playground”, the whole package of photography and installation art.
The photos had taken at top 4 shopping malls around Jakarta. South Jakarta with Cilandak Town Square, Central Jakarta with Plaza Indonesia EX, West Jakarta with Taman Anggrek Mall, and North Jakarta with Kelapa Gading Mall. Even in black and white, children world always seems colorful. -danang-
